7 Kitchen Trends for 2019

I enjoy trying new things, building something I haven’t built before and creating the unique. That is why I am super excited about where kitchen design is headed this year. I spent some time reading up on what industry experts and designers have to say about the future trends and also what is on the way out. Here is my brief summary to keep you guys in the know.

Big Statement Kitchen Back Splashes are going to be very popular. Tile all the way to the ceiling, color and pattern. So go for it. Find something you love and go big.
Pick the unexpected. Be bold with unexpected design choices from cabinets to flooring to create a memorable, personalized mix exclusive to your home that won’t keep you trapped in one definitive design direction. This includes statement sinks, fixtures and appliances (go beyond stainless steel).
Quartz and wood countertops are surging in popularity as granite declines. The popularity of brilliant quartz finishes continues to have no end in sight as it remains one of the most frequently requested materials, and for good reason. Quartz is virtually indestructible, and though they require more care, wooden counters are an effective way to add warmth and character in any kitchen.
You are going to be seeing a lot of glass and steel made into room dividers and as shelving. When used to separate a kitchen and living room, these transparent dividers can keep food smells and noise in the kitchen, while creating the visual effect of a large, open floor plan. An alternative to wooden open shelving, glass shelves let light in and can be incorporated into your cabinet design and even cross windows.
Dark colors are making a big comeback. While gray is still popular, you will start seeing more navy, black, dark green, and unexpected woods in the kitchen. Consider purposely mismatched kitchen decor using two complementary tones for walls and cabinets to surprise the eye with an instantly cool look. The all white kitchen is a classic and has had tremendous popularity over the last several years. From all I read, this trend is on the way out as color makes a come back.
Terrazzo surfaces are back on trend as Mid-Century Modern interior design continues to a sought-after design style.
Built-in bench seating in dining nooks or custom benches that give the feeling of a banquette, but without the commitment of a full blown built-in will become increasingly popular in design.
